Albert Lexie shines shoes for a living. $5 per pair. Sometimes he gets a tip. Maybe it’s $1. Maybe $2. When he gets a tip, he donates it to the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
He’s been doing that for 31 years, and in that 31 years, he’s donated over $200,000 to the hospital’s Free Care Fund!
The Free Care Fund pays for the medical care of children whose parents are unable to afford the hospital bills. Can you imagine how many children Albert Lexie’s generosity has saved? How many lives he has touched?
Albert Lexie says it feels great to be a hero. And he is a hero to countless of children and their parents.
But he’s also a role model. He shows us that giving is possible for all of us. He shows us that something small done consistently is a big deal. He shows us that everyone can be a hero.
