“What we have done for ourselves alone, dies with us; what we have done for others and the world, remains and is immortal”. ~Albert Pike
Unfortunately or fortunately, we can’t live forever. We are here on this planet for a finite amount of time, and then we are gone– our physical bodies no longer taking up space on this planet.
Wouldn’t it be nice, though, if something of you remained? Something meaningful? Worthwhile? Something of your spirit?
What you have done for yourself– the things you bought, the things you learned, the money you earned– dies with you.
It’s only the things you’ve done for others that remain– the discussions you had about the things you learned, the children you raised, the people you cheered on in tough times, the causes you donated to with the money you earned, the lives you changed. When you touch someone’s life, you become a part of their life. And when they touch someone’s life, you become part of that person’s life. From person to person, life to life, a piece of who you were and what you believed in survives to create an even better world.
