Those who bring sunshine into the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves. J.M. Barrie
My husband works nights, and we’ve discovered how hard it is to keep out the sun. The sunlight reminds his body that it’s daytime, and that he should be up and about. But he’s been up and about all night, and it’s time for him to sleep.
To keep out the sun, we’ve installed blackout curtains that are insulated with a thick lining specially designed to block light. But the light leaks in around the top and bottom edges of the curtain.
The door is closed, but outline of the door is illuminated by sunlight. The room is as dark as we can possibly make it, but there is light. We’ve discovered that it’s impossible to keep out the sun.
Your actions can bring sunshine into someone’s world. A smile at the right time can remind a person that there are good people in the world and inspire them to be kind to someone else. A pep talk can remind your friend about his/her good qualities and give them strength to keep trying. A donation can keep the lights on at the local homeless shelter and give those men and woman a safe place to sleep and an opportunity to get back on their feet.
This light you’ve created for others also illuminates your life. YOU feel better when you smile. YOU feel great about inspiring your friend. YOU feel great about giving a person an opportunity for a better life.
It’s impossible to keep your world dark, when you light up others.
