When I read a story about someone helping someone else, I often find myself holding back tears.
Maybe this story of the “2012 Sports Illustrated Kids SportsKids of the Year” will make you cry, too. Cayden is 7 years old and has hypertonic cerebral palsy. The condition leaves him unable to walk or talk on his own. Conner, Cayden’s older brother, had always wanted to play sports with his brother, and one day, he came up with an idea…
They could compete in triathlons together!
During the swim portion of the triathlon, Conner pulls Cayden in a raft behind him. During the run, he pushes his brother in a cart in front of him, and on the bike ride, he tows his brother in a cart. Cayden really enjoys the ride! The entire race he is laughing, clapping, and smiling the whole way.
Witnessing Cayden’s love and commitment to his brother brings me to tears, and he reminds me about the human spirit capacity for serving others.
Give, because when you give to others, you illuminate the best of the human spirit. The beauty you reveal may just bring you and others to tears, too.
