Happiness, of course, means different things to different people, and happiness might mean different things to us at different times. For many people, happiness is a feeling of well-being and contentment when things important to us are going well. That’s a shallow, elusive, and fleeting feeling.
Ultimately, life lived to feel content will also feel unfulfilling. A meaningful, rewarding, and fulfilling life requires that we feel good about who we are and our contribution to the world.
To feel good about you who are, give yourself time to to do the things you need to do to restore your physical and mental health. Give yourself permission to be all parts of yourself: the good, the bad, the beautiful, and the ugly. Give yourself acceptance. You’re unique, interesting, and valuable.
To feel good about your contribution to the world, give your time, talent, and money to who and what you love. Find a purpose, something to accomplish, something to contribute to, and give to it.
